Defying all the expectations of premiering during Super Bowl, the official trailer for Fast and Furious spin-off Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw drifted online on Friday evening (IST).

The 3-minute-long trailer is a detailed run through of the plot of this buddy action film. Idris Elba is a supervillain named Brixton who, thanks to 'cyber-genetic' technology, can smash like hulk and cut through the cobbled lanes of London on his sleek bike. An anarchist, he wants the world to go down. So he steals a biological weapon -- that has the ability to alter the course of humanity -- under the nose of an MI6 agent Hattie Shaw (Vanessa Kirby) who, guess what, just happens to be the sister of Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham.

Of all the intelligence personnel in this F&F Universe, the job of tracking and stopping Brixton falls on Shaw and Luke Hobbs -- bald renegade Diplomatic Security Service chap played by Dwayne Johnson in previous F&F movies.

What we see in the trailers is the regular F&F programming of flying cars, impossible stunts, corny dialogues, bald dudes only dialled up to eleven. The few factors that set this one apart are the thinly veiled curse words and a hint of superhero material.

All these actors have made a career out of action movies, including Kirby who is the new addition to Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible series. They all seem to be playing to their strengths. Johnson with the brute force, Statham with mixed martial art leaning, and Elba who mixes his Heimdall practice with modern moves and that piercing stare (fangirling alert!)

After eight movies, Universal Pictures stumbled upon this brilliant spin-off that packs potential and promises to keep the franchise alive. Johnson and Statham's onscreen chemistry was one of the saving grace of Fast 8 as the 'family' angle was running out of steam.

With Deadpool 2 and John Wick director David Leitch in the driving seat of this new venture, the movie looks to be a good summer entertainer. Here's hoping.
