Don’t be a drag, just be a queen.’

It seems Lady Gaga took a cue from her 2011 hit number Born This Way when she entered the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for Met Gala 2019. Staying true to the evening’s theme Camp: Notes on Fashion, the award-winning songstress arrived in a Brandon Maxwell billowing fuchsia pink gown complete with a trail and a mini chariot. Just when onlookers felt this was all the fashion chameleon was sporting, she sprung a surprise on everyone by unravelling three more outfits. The first ensemble opened into a black gown with an asymmetrical sweetheart neckline, which she then cast aside for a body-hugging pink one before finally revealing black sequinned lingerie.

American stage performer, actor and singer Billy Porter made an impressive entry dressed as the proverbial Sun God, in an outfit designed by The Blonds. He flaunted 10-foot wings, which were a part of his bejewelled catsuit and completed the look with a 24-karat gold headpiece.

With her outlandish hairdo, silver-frosted brows, lashes and raspberry eyeshadow, our desi girl Priyanka Chopra Jonas seemed she had stepped out from another world. She flaunted a silver and pastel-hued Dior gown complete with a flowing feathery cape and a crown with oodles of confidence.

Ami Patel, who has styled PC on numerous occasions told After Hrs, “From eyelashes to crown to toe, Priyanka worked the theme like a dream. Dior Haute Couture’s futuristic take on Camp was indeed jaw dropping. And most of all, PC brings her special something to the table always! The layered necklace and cuffs to me are her signature touch. And of course, she takes India wherever she goes. That silver bindi fitted in so perfectly. I love the ice princess eyelashes and silver under eye that goes with the look. The colour on the eye, mouth and her earrings played off a perfect triangle to go with the feathers at the bottom. All in all it was a look that was original.”

Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone channelled her inner Barbie in a Zac Posen pink gown of pink lurex Jacquard, embellished with three-dimensional printed pieces. The leggy lass opted for an Audrey Hepburn-like hairdo and bold looks for the evening. Overall, the look reminded everyone of a vintage princess.

While the Jenner sisters — Kylie and Kendall — looked straight out of a fairytale, thanks to their bright feathered Versace gowns, Katy Perry lit up the pink carpet dressed as a chandelier. She sported three layers of lit-up candles, which acted as the perfect accessories for her silver Moschino dress. While Lupita Nyong’o was a vision in a multi-coloured rainbow-hued Versace gown, Celine Dion dazzled in an Oscar de la Renta metallic bodysuit with fringe and a feathered headpiece. Cara Delevingne paid an ode to the pride movement with her sheer bodysuit, with rainbow stripes and a huge headpiece that was adorned with bananas, hands, teeth and, eeks, even eyeballs!
