Oscar-winning British actress Emma Thompson called out Harvey Weinstein as a bully and a predator over the scandal surrounding the disgraced Hollywood producer.

Talking to BBC, the Love Actually star said that on the sets of Nanny McPhee, which was Miramax property, she clashed with Weinstein over business dealings. She said that she was unaware of particular incidents, but when the matter came to light, she wasn't surprised.

“One of the big problems in the system we have is that there are so many blind eyes and we can’t keep making the women to whom this happens responsible. They are the ones we have got to speak. Why?” she said.

The Beauty and the Beast star added that Weinstein is 'the top of a very particular iceberg in a system of harassment and belittling and bullying and interference.'

"I don’t think you can describe him as a sex addict, he’s a predator. That’s different. He’s at the top of, as it were the ladder of, a system of harassment and belittlement and bullying and interference. This has been part of our world, women’s world, since time immemorial.

"So what we need to start talking about is the crisis in masculinity, the crisis of extreme masculinity which is this sort of behaviour," said the actress.

In the wake of the scandal, Weinstein, who is believed to have checked into a rehab in Arizona, has split from his wife Georgina Chapman and been sacked from his own Weinstein Company, while he has also been slammed by big names in Hollywood, including Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, and Dame Judi Dench.

Now, it has been confirmed by the police in New York and London that they were investigating Weinstein for sexual assault.
