Suicide rates in India are increasing every year. As per a WHO report,  India accounts for 25% of all suicides in the world. However, owing to lack of awareness about mental health, there are lot of misconceptions about suicides. Here are a few myth busters to help those with suicidal thoughts and prevent an attempts.

Myth 1: Those who talk about suicide don't really act upon it
Statements such as "you'll be sorry when I'm dead," "I can't see any way out,"  must not be brushed away as empty threats or concerns.

Myth 2: Suicidal people are crazy
All those who have suicidal need not be mentally ill.They may be going through grief, illness, period of despair or some health condition which can lead to having suicidal thoughts.

Myth 3: Nothing can prevent someone who is determined to take his life
It is not true that suicidal people are certain about wanting to choose to kill themselves. They have mixed feelings about death until the last moment when thy act upon the suicidal thoughts. It is usually a strong urge for the pain they go through to stop that makes them think about taking the extreme step.

Myth 4: Suicidal people do not want help
Several studies have shown that more than half of the suicide victims had sought help before attempting to kill themselves.

Myth 5: Talking about suicide could make someone kill themselves
Suicidal people do not take the step if someone brings up the topic. Contrary to beliefs that talking to persons with suicidal thoughts push them to deciding to kill themselves, it is in fact one of the most helpful things that can make them prevent suicide.
