Valentine’s Day falls on February 14 every year.

The day of love, Valentine’s Day is nearing and soon you will see a barrage of red coloured gifts in most shops – heart-shaped pillows, teddy bears, roses and so on. If you want to stay away from all these clichéd things yet want to gift your special someone something, here are a few gift ideas just for you.

For her

The ‘I-love-to-get-pampered’ woman: Is your special one someone who loves enjoying the good life? Does a mani-pedi make her feel precious then the perfect gift for her will be a spa voucher. A complete indulgence, a spa will completely renew her senses and she will thank you for it later. Most spas offer gift certificate which you can avail of. And if you wish to make it more romantic, get a couple spa voucher wherein both of you can experience the treatment together. What’s more! Not only is a spa treatment rejuvenating for the mind, the body massage helps improve blood circulation and improves your skin tone. Read more on how to select a body massage.

The ‘I-hate-going-to -the-gym’ woman: Gifting a gym membership to a woman can at times backfire as she may think you don’t like her body. But if you care for her health and well being, why not give her a yoga class membership this Valentine’s Day. If she’s reluctant to go alone, tag along and bond as you do the downward dog. Yoga truly soothes one’s entire body, mind and soul. To make things more interesting, sign up for a couple yoga class.

The ‘I-don’t-like-romantic-things’ woman: Different women like different things and there are some who are not into red roses and heart candies. If your girlfriend or wife is one of these, give her something that suits her personality. Cook a meal for her before she gets home and make sure it is her favourite. Even if it isn’t the best, she will love the gesture. Here are a few recipes you could try this Valentine’s Day.

Tip: The best way to make your woman feel special is to make an effort, even the little ones count. Take out time for her and give her your undivided attention. Make her laugh and help her with everyday things such as doing the dishes or buying groceries.

For him

The ‘I-love-gadgets’ man: If your man is someone who loves to buy the coolest, new gadgets out there, surprise him by gifting him something on these lines. But you can make sure he gets his dose of exercise as well by giving him fitness wearables such as wrist bands that can monitor his heart rate, calories burnt or the number of steps he takes every day. This will inspire him to get some physical exercise.

The ‘I-love-the-gym’ guy: If you are dating someone who is a gym rat and cannot get through the day without pumping some iron, make sure you get something appropriate for him. For instance, you can buy protein shakes for him or you could also buy gym wear such as a cool pair of shoes or track pants which will be useful for him. You could also try cooking healthy dishes which will help him stay energetic post his workout session.

The ‘can’t-get-enough-of-you’ man: Though most men love having sex at any given point, things can get monotonous if you do not add anything new to the routine. If you are couple who loves staying indoors and having your own little party, surprise your man by taking things a notch higher. You could try new sex positions or you could heat things up by enacting his favourite fantasy. Another way is to wear sexy lingerie when he enters the room.

Tip: Doing things that your man isn’t expecting you to do can turn him on. This Valentine’s Day, surprise him by watching a football match with him instead of complaining why he’s always glued to the TV. Or book tables at a nice restaurant and ask him to meet you there. You could even give him a rose to surprise him further.
