Dr Rakesh Sinha is not new to motivational speaking, except that this time the Mumbai-based gynaecological endoscopic surgeon decided to put his pen to paper and write a book. With two Guinness World Records to his credit, the passionate marathon runner feels that he can share a thing or two about success with others.

“As a surgeon, I have few minutes to perform some complex surgery and it is often a matter of life and death for someone. There is urgency in the work,” Dr Sinha says. “Why can’t we apply the same urgency to our everyday life?” he asks.

He agrees though that the term success is a very personal thing and means different things to different people, so it is important to define it for ourselves and then work towards it.

“Inner success is true success. It is not a destination but a journey. And as the Mumbai’s civic body demonstrates, that the road to success is always under construction,” says Dr Tehemton Udwadia, a surgeon and gastroenterologist with over five decades of experience.

Dr Sinha himself would like to divide success into four quadrants: personal, professional, family and spiritual. “There has to be a balance between all the four spheres for me to consider myself successful,” he says.

One of the most important things to be successful, according to him is to be able to fill the skills gap. “It is the difference between where you are and where you want to be. If I didn’t know sutures, I learnt it. But to have the idea is important,” he adds.

The book took three years to complete and has a foreward by Jack Canfield of the Chicken Soup series fame.
