Sometimes bouts of stress also bring along irregular heartbeat. In my case, it was accompanied with some breathlessness and caused me to panic. Each time, I would sit up and take a few deep breaths, smell some eucalyptus oil and go back to bed.

Anxiety can include feelings of worry, nervousness, fear, apprehension, concern or restlessness.

The best way to deal with it is to address your emotional triggers with a psychologist who will help you iron out issues with the stress you experience.

Whether it’s kriyas, pranayama, breathing exercises, chanting, some sort of meditation will keep your heart in a state of ‘joy’.

Go for simpler meals made from whole grain, beans, vegetables, good quality fermented foods, soups. Don’t drink tea, coffee, or other stimulants, or eat sugar, chocolates. In fact, if you suffer from anxiety issues you must stop consuming these.

Your heart resonates with the ‘bitter’ taste, so incorporate ‘bitter’ foods like mustard greens, amaranth (whole grain), asparagus, arugula (rocket leaves), fenugreek (methi), celery, dark chocolate, gourd, dandelion (baunphal), papaya, bitter gourd (karela), curry leaves, liquorice root (mulethi). Use a lot of leafy greens. Include corn, quinoa, red pumpkin (bhopla), kidney beans, melons and berries to your daily diet. And whenever possible, go for cooking styles such as blanching, grilling, quick sauté with oil, pressed, raw and roasting.

Recipe

Bitter green shots to relax the heart:
