24-year-old Cuffe Parade resident is Mumbai's 5th cadaver donor

On Thursday, a 25-year-old man with haemophilia became the city's fifth cadaver donor of the year. The Cuffe Parade resident was brought to Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai Central last Friday. Haemophilia is a disorder in which the blood doesn't clot normally.
 
"He was brought to our hospital last Friday and was suffering from an intra-cranial bleed. On Monday, we realised he was brain dead following which we started counselling the parents and they agreed," said Dr Parag Rindani, the hospital's head.  
 
The heart went to Fortis Hospital in Mulund while one kidney went to Jaslok Hospital. Another kidney was kept by Wockhardt Hospital. The distribution was done as per the norms of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC).
 
A 29-year-old male from Nashik got a new lease of life at Fortis Hospital due to the transplant. He had been on the waiting list for over three weeks.
 
Dr Anvay Mulay, Head of Cardiac Transplant Team, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “This young donor’s family deserves appreciation for having saved multiple lives through their noble gesture – they help us build a strong testimony, that patients with end-stage heart failure have hope. Our young recipient is now stable and will be kept under observation for the next 48-72 hours in the ICU."
