Post her marriage with UTV’s Siddharth Roy Kapoor on October 16, Vidya Balan is gearing up for her first post-marriage film Ghanchakkar, in June. Actresses in their post-marriage films — Kajol in Fanaa and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Jodha Akbar — have scored highly. But Vidya isn’t worried about being accepted as a married woman.

She has already played a married woman onscreen several times like in Salaam-E-Ishq, Parineeta, Bhool Bhulaiya and Kahaani. In fact in her next three films — Ghanchakkar, the biopic on Subhalaxmi, and Shaadi Ke Side-Effects also, she is portraying a married woman.

Says a source, “There will be no holding back. Vidya will be playing the wifey card to the hilt while promoting the film. She won’t downplay her marital status. In fact, she will use it to build her character. Her character is that of a happily married woman who is out to have some fun on the sly.” Emraan Hashmi plays the role of her husband. Laughs director Rajkumar Gupta, “Vidya did play a wife in Kahaani. But not a housewife. This is also her first attempt at comedy. And she’s a riot. Her comic timing has to be seen to be believed.”

Inspired by Dolly Bindra!
Vidya talks, dresses and behaves very loudly in her upcoming film. We hear the character is inspired by Dolly Bindra. Rajkumar says, “It’s a very flamboyant role. And  a complete contrast to the mousy introverted quiet character Vidya played in No One Killed Jessica. It’s a leap in terms of mood content and treatment for both Vidya and me. In Ghankchakkar we both let ourselves go. We had loads of fun.”

Married? So what?

Rajkumar cuts down any possibility of marriage affecting Vidya’s career. “Not at all. In today’s age, a heroine’s marital status doesn’t affect the audiences’ perceptions. Besides, even before marriage Vidya played unconventional out-of-the-box roles. She continues to do so. She is a fearless actress and wouldn’t hesitate to do anything  for a film. Once she accepts a film she embraces the character wholeheartedly.”

Hit maangta!
He continues, “Actually we are at a time when all kinds of films are being made and seen. There are no inhibitions. Every filmmaker is at liberty to do what he likes.” He admits there is a certain amount of responsibility to deliver a hit. “The Vidya-Emraan combo have The Dirty Picture behind  them. I have No One Killed Jessica to follow up. So Vidya needs to live up to two levels of audiences’ expectations. It isn’t an easy place to be  in. But she’s had a lot of fun doing the part. And that enjoyment is bound to make itself  connect with the audience.”
