While action hero Akshay Kumar is known to go all out when it comes to film promotions, he seems to have completely gone off-the-beaten track as far as one of his upcoming films is concerned. Neither has the actor been talking about his Neeraj Pandey film Special Chabbis on public platforms, nor has he revealed anything about the film’s shoot. This led to a segment in the industry wondering if all was well between the filmmakers and the star. But it has been revealed that not only are the two well in tune with each other, but they have also come up with a unique marketing strategy to combat the blitzkreig associated with promotions that has now become a norm in Bollywood. Just like the recent thriller Talaash that was kept under wraps through the year until release, Special Chabbis too has been kept extremely well-guarded, until now.
According to sources, very few people were aware that a lot of news reports that have been appearing of late talking of CBI raids is not actually news, but a teaser campaign for this film that has been designed by Akshay. “Akshay has consciously stayed away from talking about this film. He has kept it under wraps. Though there were teaser campaigns about raids in various cities of India by a group of CBI officers, many people actually associated these teasers with the ongoing talks of anti-corruption or some other expose. There was no telling that they are actually a part of this film, moreso since Akshay has not been featured in them yet,” informs the source from the production team.
But the first association of the film with the teaser will only be made when the first theatrical trailer releases. “The first theatrical trailer of the film has been attached with Salman Khan’s big ticket release this Friday, Dabangg 2 and it’s bound to take everyone with surprise,” adds the source. The film is an edgy heist drama which required the director and the actors to lie low about it. So, from the shooting till the first look release, everyone has been tight-lipped about this film which is being directed by Neeraj Pandey of A Wednesday fame and sees him team up with Anupam Kher and Jimmy Shergill again.
