The Tamil Nadu state wing of the Hindu Vishwa Parishad (VHP) have called for a ban on the film Uttama Villain, a Tamil drama, starring actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan, claiming the film is disrespectful to Hindus, The Hindu reports.
The film is about an eighth century theatre artist and a contemporary star. VHP claims that the song, Iraniyan Nadagam, in the film will hurt followers of Lord Vishnu as it downplays the conversation between Vishnu's devotee Prahalad and the demon Hiranyakashipu.
The film, directed by Ramesh Aravind, is set to be released on May 1, 2015.
