Apart from these two ‘M’s (medicine and music), what were the two other important Ms in Antara Mitra’s life when she first came to Mumbai? The singer reveals some interesting tidbits about her musical journey.
Singer Antara Mitra’s journey in playback singing hasn’t been that of overnight success, but the Kolkata girl has worked her way up, with songs such as Saree Ke Fall Sa (R...Rajkumar) and Bheegi Si (Raajneeti) to becoming Kajol’s voice in the upcoming Dilwale. Antara has sung three songs in the movie, including the romantic Gerua and Janam Janam, as well as the hip-hop number Manma Emotion.
“It wasn’t planned that way. I’m lucky that the songs I sang were approved. Luckily, most of them were on Kajol,” says the songstress. We asked Antara to share five things about her, which most people don’t know. Here they are:

1. For the first one-and-a-half years of my stay in Mumbai as a paying guest, I survived only on burgers and Maggi. And that was out of choice! As you can imagine, I’m not so fond of Maggi anymore.
2. I am a first class in Bengali literature from Kolkata University. Not many people are aware of that.
3. I have been doing gigs in Kolkata since the age of six. My aunt used to sing for All India Radio and I was very impressed by her, so most of my songs used to be Bengali folk songs.
4. I left my medical entrance exams in Kolkata to come to Mumbai for the Indian Idol auditions. I don’t think I’d have ever come to Mumbai to pursue my music career, had it not been for the reality show.
5. Sonu Nigam was one of the judges at Indian Idol when I participated. And my first ever song in Bollywood was with him for a film called Speed and the song was Loving You.
