Oozing rustic charm each time she comes on screen, Richa Chadha has made the desi look really sexy. With an impressive body of work, including films like Ram Leela and Gangs of Wasseypur to her credit, Richa is choosing films with precision.

In a short chat with dna, she talks about her upcoming project Tamanchey and what's keeping her on her toes post that.

How did you get your big ticket to Bollywood?

I remember I was doing a play where I got picked to do a role for Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!. It was a very small part, but that's how I entered the industry. And then, Gangs of Wasseypur happened two years later.

Today, when the audience is used to watching leading ladies in a glamorous avatar, you have always oozed rustic charm. Is it a conscious decision to do such roles?

It is not like that at all. More than me picking the roles, I guess such roles have picked me. There are stories which come to me where the character is very sophisticated and modern but for me, the character needs to be well written. Whether my character is rustic, a Marathi-speaking or a Hindi-speaking person, they are all choices that the director makes, not me!

How different will Tamanchey be from your other films?

I have always picked roles that are challenging to portray, otherwise it makes no sense. I had a lot of fun in Tamanchey where I play a tomboy who does her own stunts, something I don't identify with because I am quite girly in real life. So it was different and fun.

Women today are crossing boundaries and a lot of films are reflecting this change, aiming to break stereotypes. Is Tamanchey a step towards this direction as well?

I would love to break all the existing stereotypes and hope that we don't create any new ones. But it all needs to be seen once the film is out.

How was it working with actor Nikhil Dwivedi?

It was difficult to get along with him initially, but now we are friends. It was like the story in a film where two people who don't get along well have sparks flying and then, they can do anything to be with each other. The only difference is that Nikhil is married and we are not in love! (Laughs)

When is Tamanchey slated to release?

The film releases on September 19 and the trailer will be out on July 30.

What are the other projects that are keeping you busy?

Good work is coming from the overseas. I am doing a British film from September and I am also doing a French-funded film in October. I am also doing a big film sometime in November, but can't talk about it yet.

With international films in your kitty, do you plan to move oversees to focus on them instead?

I don't think I will ever move out of India, the world is very well-connected now!
