The star, who came into prominence with his cameo in Deepa Mehta's controversial film Fire, says the term "struggle" is over-rated in Bollywood.
He entered Bollywood without a filmy background and is known for critically acclaimed films like Bheja Fry and Mithya but actor Vinay Pathak doesn't like to talk about his days of struggle.
The star, who came into prominence with his cameo in Deepa Mehta's controversial film Fire, says the term "struggle" is over-rated in Bollywood.
"If I tell that I came to Mumbai and slept on platforms, ate vada pav and chai, how does that matter? Everybody struggles in their profession so why should we highlight it in Bollywood," Pathak said.
"I have done what anyone will do in my place. My struggle is not over yet, I still struggle to find good scripts."
Pathak has starred in off-beat films like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Johnny Gaddaar, Dasvidaniya and is happy with the choices he has made over the years.
"I do films which tell unique stories which haven't been told by anybody before. What's the point of doing a movie with a storyline which has been done to death in the past. If I have the platform then I feel I should use it to the fullest," Pathak said.
Ask him whether he has got his due in Bollywood and the actor says he is not in the profession to get anything but only for the love of acting.
"People in Bollwood have different goals to earn money, fame, mine was only to be a good actor and tell a different story every time through movies. I wanted to be an actor since college only to be on a platform where you have the privilege to tell stories to the world. I don't have any pre conceived notions about who I want to work with and not," he said.
He will soon be seen in actress Deepa Sahi's directorial debut Tere Mere Phere, opposite Riya Sen.
"I did the movie for three reasons, first, because Deepa is one of the closest friends I made when I came to Mumbai. It was her directorial debut and I wanted to be there for her. Second, I loved the script, I liked the way she narrated it to me and third, the movie required a lot of traveling and I couldn't say no to traveling.
"I love traveling. It just gives me a different kind of high, one of the reasons I love doing movies is also because I get to travel," Pathak said.
The actor who got the image of a funnyman with his appearance in the Bheja Fry series, says he gets upset when people label him.
"It upsets me when people label me as a comedy actor. I have done a variety of films but still I am thought of as a funnyman. I don't understand why? It's so wrong and unfair for an actor who tries and experiments with his roles but is stuck in an image," he added.
Pathak will also be seen doing a cameo in Deepa Mehta's Winds Of Change, adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Booker Prize winning novel 'Midnight's Children'.
"I am doing a cameo in Deepa's film, I have worked with her earlier in Fire. It is always a pleasure working with her although it is a short role. Me and Rajat Kapoor went to Sri Lanka and had a blast but I am not allowed to disclose about the character," he said.
