Stardust Awards: 'Happy New Year' wins big; SRK, Deepika crowned 'stars of the year'

Trumping a host of Bollywood flicks released in 2014, Farah Khan's Happy New Year received the maximum number of trophies at the 2014 Stardust Awards ceremony in Mumbai on Sunday.

The array of awards for the film include 'Film of the Year', the 'Dream Director' award for Farah Khan, Best Actor Thriller/Action and Star of the Year for Shah Rukh Khan as well as Star of the Year – Female for Deepika Padukone.

The star-studded night hosted by Karan Johar and Riteish Deshmukh along with Saif Ali Khan, also saw Vikas Bahl's Queen clinching awards for the Best Film and Best Actress. Bahl also shared the title of Best Director with Imtiaz Ali, who gave one of the most memorable movies of the year—Highway. The lead star cast of Highway was also not left behind with Randeep Hooda receiving the Best Actor award and Alia Bhatt being awarded the 'Superstar of Tomorrow' trophy.

Special awardees on the occasion included the International Icon of the Year title for Bollywood mega-star Amitabh Bachchan and the Lifetime Achievement Award honour for Asha Parekh. 

Other big awards include the Best Actor - Drama trophy for Shahid Kapoor in Haider and the Best Actress - Drama trophy to Priyanka Chopra for her role in Mary Kom. Sonam Kapoor won the Best Actress - Romance/Comedy for Khoobsurat while Varun Dhawan won the Best Actor Award in the same category for his role in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.

For the movie Balika Vadhu, actor Sidharth Shukla bagged the 'Breakthrough Supporting Performance', took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to share his excitement with fans:
