Star Wars ship, Princess Leia's bikini sold at auction

The gold bikini worn by Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi and the flying ship from the first film Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was sold at a record sum at the Star Wars memorabilia auction.

The signature costume, which Princess Leia wore after she was captured by Jabba the Hutt on the desert planet Tatooine, was purchased for nearly US $100,000. It had a letter of authenticity from designer Richard Miller and came with a collar and some chain. It opened at US $80,000 and eventually went under the hammer to an anonymous bidder for US $16,000 above the starting price, reported Ace Showbiz.

However, the highest bid went to Blockade Runner. The flying ship seen in the first film Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was purchased for US $450,000. It set the new record as the most expensive Star Wars item to be sold at an auction.

Other previous Hollywood treasures that fetched six-figure winning bids included George Reeves' Superman costume US $ 216,000; Harrison Ford's signature screen used "Indiana Jones" bullwhip US $204,000; Norma Shearer's 1930 Best Actress Academy Award US $180,000, and the General Lee car from "The Dukes of Hazzard" US $120,000.
