Star Wars Episode VIII and Star Wars IX are reportedly set to arrive in theatres in 2017 and 2019.

Disney Chairman/CEO Bob Iger reportedly shared some plans regarding the film in a recent shareholders report, according to the Ace Showbiz quoting Get Your Geek On. In the report, Iger said he had seen most of Star Wars: The Force Awakens footage and assured fans that the upcoming movie would be "worth the wait".

Iger said the untitled stand-alone Star Wars film, which is directed by Gareth Edwards and is slated for December 16, 2016, would be based on characters in The Force Awakens.

"As one of the few people allowed to visit the set during filming... And one of the fewer who's seen most of the footage... I can assure the millions of Star Wars fans who have spent the last decade hoping for a new movie this one will be worth the wait," he wrote in his report to the shareholders. "And it's only the beginning of a new era of exceptional Star Wars storytelling; next year we'll release our first standalone movie based on these characters, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017, and we'll finish this trilogy with Episode IX in 2019."

The newest film in the trilogy Star Wars: Force Awakens will arrive on December 18. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are back as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia respectively. The film is directed by J J Abrams.
