Director Aishwaryaa Dhanush has launched a YouTube channel, Ten Entertainment, to give a leg up to short-film directors in the south.

Short-films have been crucial for many upcoming directors in the south and are a popular medium to showcase talent. Director Balaji Mohan’s first foray into films was short-films. He made a short-film which was appreciated by actor Siddharth. Then came Kadhalil Sodhapuvadu Eppadi and the rest as they say is history. Directors Karthik Subbaraj and Nalan Kumarasamy also followed the same route.

“There are a lot of short-film makers out there who they don’t have a proper platform to showcase their talent. We are asking people to send their short-films across four languages – Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The shortlisted ones will go up on the channel so they can be seen by everyone around the globe. There are many good south Indian short-film makers who are waiting to be discovered,” explains Aishwaryaa.

Having launched just a week ago, Aishwaryaa says some of the films they have received are quite good. “Our focus is South Indian languages only and some of the films we have received in Malayalam and Kannada show promising talent. These films may not be perfect but they show that youngsters are creative, innovative and have what it takes to succeed,” she adds.

Currently, Aishwaryaa doesn’t have any plan of turning the popular shorts on Ten Entertainment into a full-length feature film. “Our sister concern, Wunderbar Films, already produces commercial films and we want to keep both entities separate. Of course, if a producer sees any of the films on our YouTube channel and decides to turn it into a full-length feature, we’ll be happy that we’ve been instrumental in helping the short-film maker!” she says.

Ask Aishwaryaa how they plan to grab eyeballs and she explains, “We will use the social media presence of Wunderbar Films and our social media pages to cross-promote the YouTube channel. We are also planning to tie-up with colleges that conduct short-film fests and promote their best films on Ten Entertainment.”

They have also launched a Twitter handle @TenEntertain for people to follow for updates. The rules and FAQs for sending short-film content have also been posted on this handle in the four south languages.
