There are still days to go before their first film together releases, but Shah Rukh Khan’s pairing with Katrina Kaif is already being compared to that of SRK’s hit jodi with Kajol. The industry and cine-goers — who so far have only got a glimpse of the crackling chemistry the two share in the promos of Jab Tak Hai Jaan — vouch that it is hot enough to fire a positive buzz about the jodi’s sizzle quotient. According to insiders, the two are already much in demand with as many as five producers in queue to sign them up as the romantic leads for their forthcoming films. “It is unusual for a pair to be such a rage even before their first release together. We know that there have been several offers since the first promos were out as many filmmakers are keen to cash in on their screen chemistry. It is hot even with distributors and exhibitors,” says a leading distributor, before adding with a flourish, “Yeh jodi toh hit hai! After Kajol, Katrina is definitely the new ‘K’ in SRK’s reel life.”
This verdict echoes with that of trade observers too. “So far it was SRK and Kajol, followed by Akshay and Katrina that were the most-talked about pairs, but now its Kat and SRK,” say trade analysts.
An insider confirms that the two have indeed been offered five to six films last month itself, of which they may even be contemplating some. “It’s too early to talk about these films, but confirmations may happen soon. Many filmmakers are trying to convince them to sign a film together insisting that the scripts will be worked on later because they are so keen to cast them together without any delay, but that’s not how the two stars work, so let’s see,” says the insider.
The buzz also indicates that they might become the highest-paid pair in the industry considering how keen filmmakers are to get them on board. “This comes as no surprise since both are top stars in the industry today. And post Jab Tak..., their stock is bound to sky-rocket even further. The tag of being a Yash Chopra heroine directly ups the stakes for Katrina who is already riding high on her hits. The final verdict will depend on the film’s fate and so far, it seems sealed for success,” add trade pundits.
