Saif Ali Khan completes 25 years in Bollywood, with Rangoon being first release this year

Saif Ali Khan has been in the film industry for 25 years and has done close to 50 films as a lead actor. Now to go back more than 50 years in time for a period drama like Rangoon is pretty much a fitting event in itself. “It is a coincidence that he would love,” says a film historian, adding, “I wonder if even Saif is conscious about this remarkable milestone in his professional career.”

Taking its time

It wasn’t originally planned this way though. Earlier slated to release late last year, Rangoon was pushed to its current release timeline since it requires extensive post production work.

“Rangoon could well be celebrated as his silver-jubilee-year film. As an actor, it is indeed a huge high when you are the chosen one to step into the era gone by. You need a mature actor to pull off the look and wardrobe of the 1940s and Saif is just the right fit for that.”

Incidentally, Saif has two more films lined up for release in 2017 — Kaala Kandi, which releases on May 26, later, Chef arrives on 14th July.”

Major milestone

Meanwhile, one waits to see how Saif’s producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bhardwaj plan to make this major milestone all the more special for Saif. While an extensive release plan has already been put together for the film’s arrival, added noise around Rangoon being the first film in Saif’s ‘silver jubilee’ year, could be no less than an event either.
