Rishi Kapoor who played the rock star Monty in Subhash Ghai’s Karz (1980) is working with the director again after 32 years in Kanchi. His character according to an insider , is a “mix of Vijay Mallya and his character Monty from Karz”.

Apparently the villain that Rishi plays in Kanchi is an ageing Lothario, a seducer and a skirt-chaser who loves women.

And Subhash is going all-out to ensure that Rishi’s character is surrounded by a bevy of beauties. Some of the best models in the posturing business are being roped in to ensure that Rishi’s character looks like the rakish evil play ‘boy’ that he plays.

Confirms the director, “Rishi plays a business tycoon surrounded by beautiful girls. He has a very upright wife at home. But he likes to play the field even at his age. He will be seen with a lot of star-models.”

He had a tough time conceiving the character for Rishi — a villain who could be a lover, musician and a killer. Says the showman, “It was a crazy experience for me to work with Rishi after 32 years. It was tough to make him powerful, interesting and evil after presenting him as a squeaky, clean loverboy and pop icon in Karz.”

Apparently Rishi played a big hand in deciding the look and the get-up for the character. Says Rishi, “It was challenge for us to create a character who was larger than life and yet realistic.”
