Richard Attenborough's son recently revealed that his father could barely speak after a stroke hit him in 2008. According to the Mirror, the famous director-actor, fell at his home after the stroke left him confined to a wheelchair.

In 2012, the Academy Award winner and his wife Sheila Sim sold their home in Richmond and moved into a rest home.

The British filmmaker's son Michael, stated that his father was not the same man after he spent 18 months hospitalized for a bad head injury. Michael stated,  it was hard in the beginning to watch his father unable to read and write as it made him very frustrated when he was initially released from the hospital.

However, in the last few months of his life,  the award winning director seemed resigned to his fate. Michael also confirmed that the family would be holding a private funeral in the next week and a service for friends in November.
