In Sandalwood, hardly a day goes by without someone remembering late actor Rajkumar. He continues to live in the hearts of many and talk to fans of Kannada films and industry insiders and you will realise that they are in awe, just not of the personality but also of the person that Annavaru was.

As we get chatty with his son and popular actor Puneet Rajkumar on Father’s Day, he tells us that this is the exact reason why he decided to bring out a book that is dedicated to his father.

“Now that you mention Father’s Day, I feel the recent launch of Dr Rajkumar: The Person Behind The Personality — the book written by Prakruthi Banavasi with inputs from me could not have been better timed. My father was loved, both as an actor and a person. I was lucky enough to spend time with both the person and the personality called Rajkumar. So, I decided to share my experiences with him and some of his own best moments with people who love him as much as I and my siblings do,” says the actor.

Even as we flip through the pages of the well-illustrated book, we ask Puneet to get into flashback mode and recall the experience of having acted alongside his father in films such as Bhakta Prahalada, Chalisuva Modagalu, Bahaddur Gandu, Vasanta Geetha and Parashurama.

“I just remember shooting for Parashurama with him as I was really young when I shot for the other films. But what I can tell you is that I got to tour all over Karnataka with him and this allowed us some family time. I was born at a time when he was already an established star and had sometime to relax. So, we did get to travel quite a bit together,” he says.

Travelling is something that Puneet enjoys and now-a-days what makes his trips extra fun is the company of his daughters. “I love hanging out with them. So, whenever I have the time, I make it a point to take off with them,” says the ‘daddy cool’.

And what are his pearls of wisdom for them? “My father always stressed on the importance of being simple and humble. He was very down to earth and may be that’s what kept him happy. We often quote my father’s example and ask them to remain grounded and happy just like him. It was ensured that we were never treated like the children of a celebrity and my brothers and I have also made sure that our children get to lead a normal life. Simplicity is what my father swore by and that’s probably why even to this day he remains just not our favourite but that of our kids, too. He may not be physically present today, but we have the values he imbibed in us to help us travel on the right path…” concludes Puneet.

And for all those of you who want to get even more up close and personal with the person behind the personality that Rajkumar was, there is the book. Rare photos are part of the book that is priced at Rs2,750. It is available in both English and Kannada.
