Vikram Bhatt is one film-maker who refuses to sit idle, no matter how his previous film fares at the box office. That’s probably why he’s either busy penning scripts or directing films or working on projects for his production house. While his last film, Dangerous Ishq proved to be a damp squib, there’s more from the man — he’s already completed shooting for Raaz 3 for the Bhatts and the sequel to his earlier production, 1920, is also being canned.
“Even if I had free time what would I do with it? I’m happy making films — it gives me happiness to do something with all my convictions,” he states. Quiz him on Raaz 3, for which he has completed shooting and he says, “It’s the coming together of some of the most desirable brands — the Bhatts, Bipasha Basu, Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta, 3D, Fox Studios and me. The thrills and chills get bigger and better this time.”

As a film-maker, Vikram feels it’s a great time in the industry. “The audience wants films and we need to match the demand — I want to up the number of films that are being made from my production house,’ he quips. A noticeable pattern with all his films is that they don’t rope in the biggest of stars, rather than focus on the content. “People know that stars don’t sell anymore, the story does. Vicky Donor and Kahaani are two names that come to my mind instantly when I say this. A good film is a hit film,” says Vikram, adding, “It’s a little unnerving to see that stars, glamour, territories, collection, promotions gain prominence rather than a fresh story.”

Get him to talk on Dangerous Ishq and Vikram remains pretty unfazed by the way the film was received. “We’ve put in a sincere effort while making the film. The rest isn’t in my hands. But I’m glad that Karisma (Kapur) chose this film to make her comeback in films,” he says, adding with a chuckle, “Actually, I’ve chased her for so long with the script that she must have agreed to get rid of me. She’s one actor with a timeless appeal — she can fit into any space and zone with ease and expertise.”
