I had helped Pratyusha and Rahul out as a social activist in January this year when they called me.
I got a call from a news channel asking if I had heard about Pratyusha's suicide? I was shocked! I got her mother’s number from one of their friends but how do you ask somebody’s mother if their child is still alive so very casually I asked. Somebody on WhatsApp group asked me about whether it was an April Fools joke and I put the tape there for them to hear the recording for themselves. It was a personal conversation which I shared so they could understand it wasn't an April Fools joke. Next thing I knew the media had put it out which was never my intention.
I met Pratyusha and Rahul in January this year when a friend of theirs asked me to help them out, as I am a social activist, when they were at the police station. The next day when I went to their house again, she was a bit emotional about certain media reports. Rahul, Pratyusha, a journalist from a TV channel and I sat and chatted for some time below their apartment. She told me she wasn’t the way the media was portraying her. I told her, “You are a very strong person and I am very proud of you. Ten people will talk but you are an artiste so you must learn to take the praise with the criticism.” I came to know her parents well since then. I have spoken to them on the phone a few times.
When I heard about the news, I took the permission from the police and went to see the body as I wanted to know the truth — what happened to this kid since I knew them both. Her chacha (father’s brother) was there. She (Pratyusha) had fresh sindoor in her maang. I informed the police about it. There was no scar on the face except the birthmark on her forehead. Her eyes seemed normal and didn’t bulge. Her lips were black and face had dried up. Rahul and she were supposed to get married and had asked me for my blessings. I request everybody to go into details and find the truth. It’s a sensitive issue and we should be patient and wait for the truth to come out.
