The joint secretary of Cine and TV Artists' Association (CINTAA) publicly apologised for his comments on Dolly Bindra and Rakhi Sawant for their actions following Pratyusha Bannerjee's death, reported the Indian Express. He accused them of using the actress' death as a 'publicity stunt' and called for a ban on the two actresses.
Dolly Bindra supposedly took pictures of the body of the Balika Vadhu actress and claimed that she saw sindoor on her forehead. She even spoke to the actress' mother. Rakhi Sawant called for a ban on ceiling fans across the country and called them a leading cause of suicides in the country.
Amit Behl also said that he was apologetic of his comments and would be submitting his resignation during the next committee meeting. He said that he regretted his comments and he should have consulted the executive committee before making the harsh statements.
Actor Sushant Singh, CINTAA general secretary clarified that the opinions expressed by Behl were his own and did not reflect the committee's mindset. They had no right to ban any TV actor or act as the moral police, he added.
Rakhi Sawant, on the other hand, is refusing to back down until the apology is made public on all media platforms and even threatened to sue the actor. “If you don’t apologise in front of the whole media, I’m going to sue, or maybe even I’ll have to consider suicide in that case. The people of our country are abusing us so much,” she said, reported the Indian Express.
