Phir Kab Milenge?

These hit jodis are unlikely to scorch the screens anytime soon. Here's why…

Some of the hottest jodis on screen with their sizzling chemistry may never be teamed up again. Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol, Akshay Kumar-Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan-Rani Mukerji, Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan-Preity Zinta...

And filmmakers who want to cast fresh pairs for their films are the culprits, as are the heroes, who are opting for younger heroines. Meanwhile, the fans of these jodis are waiting patiently to see them sizzle together again.

Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol

They first starred together in Baazigar (1993). That was exactly two decades ago and since then they’ve performed magic each time they’ve been paired together on screen.
The Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge pair that gave several superhits, last starred together in My Name is Khan (2010).

There was a strong buzz of the two doing a cameo in Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year. However, it turned out to be a single affair for Kajol, who is yet to return to full-fledged films post her second baby. While Kajol was on her break, SRK found a partner in Katrina Kaif in the Yash Chopra film Jab Tak Hai Jaan last year.

During Diwali, things further soured between her hubby Ajay Devgn and SRK as their releases clashed. Now, the coming year has SRK busy first with Chennai Express with Deepika Padukone and then Happy New Year for which the actress is yet to be finalised. However, with the recent public tiff apparently widening the gap between the two, it’s unlikely that SRK-Kajol will be romantically paired opposite each other any time soon.
Waiting period: Mid-2014

Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor

Their 3 Idiots was one of the highest grossers of all time. Though last year’s Talaash failed to hit bull’s eye, their chemistry still generates interest. While the two remain high on most-wanted together list, it may be a while for them to pair up soon. Reason: Aamir’s got PK with Anushka Sharma and Dhoom 3 with Katrina Kaif, while Kareena’s busy with Satyagraha, followed by Gori Tere Pyaar Mein with Imran Khan and Shuddhi with Hrithik Roshan.
Waiting period: Two years at least

Salman Khan-Rani Mukerji

Their jodi was high on the fun equation than it was on the romantic wavelength. Though Rani’s pairing with SRK (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Chalte Chalte, Paheli), was quite a hit, her onscreen chemistry with Salman in films right from Hello Brother to Chori Chori Chupke Chupke to Baabul warmed hearts too.

The two have not been paired in a long time and it seems equally unlikely in the next two years as well, considering Salman’s film diary is booked for the next three years and Rani’s name doesn’t figure on the list of possible actresses.

Besides, Rani hasn’t signed any film apart from Bombay Talkies. With Salman’s heroic outings and Rani’s penchant for strong women roles, well it’s a combination that may take a long while to be seen.
Waiting period: Late 2014

Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Their jodi created quite a Dhoom and they topped up the sizzle quotient with substance in Guzaarish and with romance in Jodha Akbar. But even with Aishwarya keeping ’em guessing about her ‘comeback’ to the big screen post mommyhood, the fans are not giving up hope of the pair coming together once again. As of now, Hrithik’s busy with Krrish 3 (Priyanka), Bang Bang (Katrina), Shuddhi and then a few more.

Our guess? The wait continues till 2014 at least

Akshay Kumar- Priyanka Chopra

The pair that gave several hits together came under scanner — questioning their personal equations and eventually leading to the two parting ways professionally. Despite the hit tag with films like Aitraaz, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Waqt... getting the two together will be nothing less than a miracle.

The action star has as many as eight films in hand and will be busy for the next two years. None of his films feature PC. Meanwhile, she too has her hands full this year with interesting projects with younger heroes.
Waiting period: Indefinite

John Abraham-Bipasha Basu

Their Jism had scorched the big screen when they were first paired opposite each other a decade ago. Several films together followed. However, their personal equations have long changed since then.

The two parted on a bitter note and they have adequately made it known that they are in no rush to romance each other on screen. Though there were talks of Bipasha being roped in for a special number in Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala starring John, it’s not surprising to know that the song didn’t work out.
Waiting period: May never end!

Saif Ali Khan-Preity Zinta

It’s Kal Ho Na Ho for this Salaam Namaste pair... The new fun pair are Saif and Deepika Padukone (Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail, Race 2). Now coming up is his next home production (Go, Goa, Gone) and in his next (Bullet Raja) there’s Sonakshi Sinha.

Meanwhile, Preity, who hasn’t done a mainstream film in a long time awaits the release of her maiden production Ishqk in Paris. Chances of seeing this pair together are slim.
Waiting period: End of 2014
