Paul Feig, the director of the new Ghostbusters film, has revealed that Bill Murray is to make a cameo appearance in the forthcoming reboot.

Murray, 65, led an all-star cast in the franchise's original two films, but in recent years he has strongly opposed any Ghostbusters follow on or remake.

The rebooted movie sees Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones play the paranormal fighting gang.

Now, Feig has announced that Murray will make a cameo appearance, with original cast members Sigourney Weaver and Dan Aykroyd set to return in as yet unspecified roles, reported NME magazine.

"Bill worked with Melissa in 'St Vincent'... and Kristen knows him really well. One of the reasons he did it, I think he liked the role we wrote for him," Feig said.

"But he also just likes these actors, and just wanted to be a part of it. And he didn't want to give any stamp of disapproval by not coming on board."
