Vidya Balan's Kahaani was a film made on a shoe string budget of Rs 8 crore. The film garnered huge momentum at the box office, thanks to a brilliant word of mouth and the film raked in over Rs 60 crore at the box office. Four years later when Sujoy wanted to make the next instalment in the Kahaani franchise, he lost the plot towards the climax.

The film which is laced with towering performances from its lead cast falls short because of a terrible and predictable end. At the box office too, the film has not been able to show any kamaal. And there's a huge reason apart from the film's no-thrill complaints.

What's it? Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt starrer Dear Zindagi. The Gauri Shinde directorial has been making great money at the BO and even though there's a new release in the form of Kahaani 2, Dear Zindagi is still rocking at the box office.

While Kahaani raked in Rs 9.50 crore on the first and second day, DZ continued its winning streak and added another Rs 5.50-6 crore in its second week. It's surprising that the difference between the old film and the new film's performance is so less.

Plus, the biggest worry for Kahaani 2 is that the Alia-SRK starrer has been appreciated and is doing good business too. To add to the Kahaani team's woes, Dear Zindagi is working really well in a few centres and the problem is Kahaani 2 is also working considerably better in those key centres. And because of that, Kahaani 2 is even facing stiff competition from Dear Zindagi in those centres as well, which is why its performance in those centres too is getting limited.
