In the first-of-its-kind, an Indian adaptation of a Shakespearean play was shot at Shakespeare’s birthplace at Stratford-upon-Avon in England. The film Veda is director Onir’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The film will feature newcomer Ashish Bisht in the lead.

Talking about getting the very rare permission to shoot in Shakespeare’s birth place the film’s producer Bhavna Talwar  says, “On Shakespeare’s birth anniversary, we shot at Stratford-upon-Avon, where Shakespeare was born. The entire town was celebrating and we obtained special permission to shoot for our film. We even shot inside the church were his grave is located.”

The footage shot at Stratford-upon-Avon will be incorporated into the film. Says Bhavna, “We know we have captured footage that no filmmaker ever has. We feel our Hamlet is a tribute to Shakespeare and shooting in his birthplace is an homage to the enduring reputation of the man.”
