Now, Telugu film 'Gopala Gopala' invites ire of right-wing activists

Amid nationwide protests against Aamir Khan-starrer 'PK', an upcoming Telugu film has earned the ire of a right-wing outfit, which today complained to Censor Board about "un-parliamentary" portrayal of Hindu Gods in the movie.

Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti (BGUS) has objected to the manner in which Lord Krishna and other Hindu Gods have been depicted in the film, "Gopala Gopala", starring popular heroes Venkatesh and Pavan Kalyan in lead roles. In a representation submitted to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), BGUS, the organiser of annual Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in Hyderabad, said a negative depiction of revered deities hurts the religious sentiments of the majority community and may lead to disturbance in society.

"Gopala Gopala", whose promos have been released recently, is said to be a dubbed version of 2012 Bollywood film "Oh My God!" The outfit has based its complaint on content of the teaser though the film is still to be completed.

"In the film (teaser) we found Lord Krishna and other Hindu Gods have been shown in un-parliamentary way. If this kind of things occur in society, every Hindu feeling will be hurt and it leads to disturbance in society.

"So, I request you to take sincere action towards this film and make sure such things do not form part of the upcoming film," BGUS said in the representation. The just released `PK' has been accused by right-wing outfits of being disrespectful to Hinduism, a charge denied by its director Rajkumar Hirani.
