Sometimes just a mention of a celebrity can create news, and if the celebrity is none other than Norah Jones, be assured the news will turn into a rage. That’s what is happening with her upcoming India tour, where she will take part in festival A Summer’s Day.

And what acts like an icing on the cake is the news that singer-songwriter and producer M Ward (inset) would be supporting the Grammy Award winner daughter of late sitar legend Pandit Ravi Shankar.

Since it was announced last year, that the US Jazz artiste would be performing in India, Jones’ fans have been looking forward to the month of March with a bated breath.

Jones will be supported by Ward – who is one half of indie pop and folk duo She & Him (with actress Zooey Deschanel), and also a part of the indie supergroup Monsters of Folk.

M Ward has earlier collaborated with Norah Jones in her track Sinkin’ Soon (from her 2007 release Not Too Late) in which he played guitar and contributed vocals. The duo have also been on a long American tour in April and May 2007.

In their maiden India tour, the two will be playing at the Turf Club (Mahalaxmi) in Mumbai on March 3 at the festival — tickets for which are already up for sale. This will be followed by performances in New Delhi (March 5 at Siri Fort Auditorium) and Bangalore (March 8 at NICE Grounds near BIEC).

Looking forward to his gigs in India M Ward says, "My band and I are very excited and honoured to get a chance to see and perform in India. This will be our first time in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore."

With eight full-length solo albums to his credit, M Ward is known for merging a new-world folk sound with a healthy nod to blues, country and pop of old, and subject matter that ranges from deeply personal to observational to political level.

His most recent solo album A Wasteland Companion was released in April 2012 to a critical acclaim and included collaborations with Zooey, members of Sonic Youth and Bright Eyes. Ward has also contributed in recordings by singer-songwriter and actress Cat Power, acclaimed rock act My Morning Jacket, American singer-songwriter Neko Case and indie rock band Bright Eyes, amongst others.
