The trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are renowned for their unique music in Bollywood. Production houses like Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, Excel Entertainment have time and again come back to the music directors to work their magic on movies.

Ehsaan Noorani forms one part of this famous trio. He is a composer and a guitarist who studied music with Bismarck Rodrigues. He also lent his voice to and sometimes performed guitar solos for other music directors such as Vishal-Shekar (Small Town Girl - Bachna Ae Haseeno), Himesh Reshammiya (Mujhse Shaadi Karogi - Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge), Nadeem Shravan (Yeh Dil Diwana - Pardes).

The maestro opened up about his journey so far and how he gave up becoming an architect to pursue a career in music.

“My first love is the Blues,” says Ehsaan Noorani, his cool, breezy demeanor in stark contrast with the sweltering heat of the Mumbai summer. “Every song tells a story,” he says, with a distant look in his eyes. We could almost imagine the Guitar riffs from Agar Mein Kahoon from the film Lakshya playing in the background as he spoke about his journey as a musician, his influences and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Noorani’s suburban Mumbai middle class background is evident in his unassuming attitude. The story of his life is just another story of a young boy confused about his career, who happened to choose one by stroke of luck and made it big. After earning a first class in ICSE, Noorani was all-set to become an architect, just like many others in his family. The only problem was that he was terrible at science, a mandatory subject if one has to pursue a career in architecture. Noorani had been learning to play the Guitar from the age of 14 from famous Guitarist, Bismarck Rodrigues. He was exposed to different genres of music from an early age. But, he never considered music as a career, until his uncle suggested it. The support and encouragement of his family played a great role in him taking up music as a serious career.
