Lego Movie 2 will feature more female role models than the first film, say the makers.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who wrote and directed the 2014's Lego Movie, which was one of the highest grossing film at the US box office and had earned over $468 million worldwide, said that it was important that their work inspired women as well, the BBC reported.

The pair, who'll be writing and producing the sequel as well, which had been slated for 2018, didn't reveal characters, but added that the follow-up would have "more female stuff."

The original film had featured a male protagonist Emmet Brickowski (voiced by Chris Pratt), a construction worker whose "love interest" is Wyldestyle (Elizabeth Banks), a freedom fighter with "a strong, independent streak."

Miller said that they hadn't really figured out the plot outline for the sequel, but were certain that many broad elements would change by the time the movie comes out.
