Singer Lady Gaga says she didn't want to do her David Bowie tribute at the Grammy Awards, as it was "so soon" after the music legends death.

The 30-year-old pop star, who performed a heartfelt medley of the Bowie's hits at the awards show back in February, said she didn't want to say yes to the offer initially, reported Female First.

"I really did not want to do it when they first called me because it was so soon after (Bowie's death) and I felt very uncomfortable, but I did my very best to put together something that I hoped would be the showstopper of the night," Gaga said.

The tribute got mixed reviews, not least from Duncan Jones, the only son of the 'Space Oddity' hitmaker, who posted a cryptic tweet after the performance.

"overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused." Damn it! What IS that word!? (sic)" he wrote.
