Rohan Sippy and Kunaal Roy Kapur have known each other for decades. Hailing from famous film families, the duo’s friendship extends to their love for their art. In 2009, Kunaal debuted on the big screen with The President Is Coming, an English production by Rohan. They collaborated again in 2013 for Nautanki Saala. Now, they are back with a rib-tickling original series titled Side Hero, which is streaming exclusively on Eros Now.
The self-deprecatory comic series is based on Kunaal’s pursuit of a lead role and how he always ends up as the ‘Side Hero’. It also features Gauahar Khan, Arjun Kanungo and Gopal Dutt with appearances by Konkona Sensharma, Shakti Kapoor and Sumeet Vyas.
The eight-episode show, which is helmed by Rohan, is a humorous take on Kunaal’s life, who plays a struggling artiste juggling between his dream and the not-so-pleasant reality. The director says, “Working with him is always fun, he brings a contagious energy on the sets and his remarkable ability to take a stab at himself is commendable.”
The actor, on his part, states, “I always knew Rohan was going to give me my big break (laughs). Working with him was stress-free and fun. Side Hero is the perfect spoof on the film industry and is totally relatable. I can’t wait to see the reactions.”
