Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan has warned the government against using COVID-19 vaccines for politics. Interestingly, Kamal Haasan's statement comes a day after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami said he would distribute the vaccines for free in his state.
Calling it an evil promise for a non-existent vaccine, Kamal Haasan tweeted, “Vaccine is life saving drug, not a sprinkling promise. You are used to playing with people’s poverty. If you dare to play with their life, your political longevity will be decided by people.”

On Thursday, Palaniswami assured that the Government will bear the cost for the vaccine. “I would like to announce that as soon as the vaccine is developed (and made available to states) all people in Tamil Nadu will be immunised and the government shall bear the cost,” he shared.
The Tamil Nadu CM made the announcement in Pudukottai, where he was on an official visit to review anti-COVID-19 measures and development projects in the district. The announcement came amidst another controversy - after BJP made a promise of free coronavirus vaccine during Bihar’s election.
The assembly elections in Tamil Nadu would take place during April-May 2021.
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan recently shared that India is expected to have COVID-19 vaccine in a few months. He also mentioned that it would be delivered within the next six months.
