'Jhing Chik Jhing' bags eight Chitrapati Shantaram awards

Set against the backdrop of issues like poverty, debt and farmer's suicides in rural Maharashtra, Marathi movie Jhing Chik Jhing has bagged eight Chitrapati V Shantaram awards including the one for best picture.

Set against the backdrop of issues like poverty, debt and farmer's suicides in rural Maharashtra, Marathi movie Jhing Chik Jhing has bagged eight Chitrapati V Shantaram awards including the one for best picture.

Not to be left behind was the musical Natrang bagging as many as six awards, mostly in the music section. While Guru Thakur was adjudged best lyricist, Ajay-Atul got the award for best music and background score.

Similarly, Ajay Gogawale bagged the award for best playback singer for the soulful rendition of Khel Mandialya... while Bela Shende got the playback singer for 'Kashi Mee Jaoo...' from the same movie.

Fulwa Khamkar bagged the trophy for best choreographer for the same movie which highlights the plight of a male dancer (nachya) in Tamasha.

Umesh Kulkarni was adjudged best director for Vihir while Atul Kulkarni bagged the award for best actor for his performance in Sukhant which deal with the issue of euthanasia. The best actress trophy went to Madhuri Juvekar for Jhing Chik Jhing while Bharat Jhadav bagged a special award for his performance in the same movie.

Veteran makeup man 89-year-old Pandharidada Jukar, who has worked with several actress including Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Madhuri Dixit, was given the lifetime achievement award. He dedicated the award to V Shantaram and expressed wish to work for at least ten more years.

The fourth V Shantaram awards by Shantaram Entertainment were given recently at a colourful function at the historic Rajkamal Kalamandir in Mumbai.
