Whether you've declared an all-out war on life or want to vent out negative energy or just listen to some crazy frantic music, Slayer is your band. One of the pioneers in the thrash metal scene, unlike the scene's biggest name Metallica, the band hasn't strayed drastically from its roots. The band with Tom Araya on bass and vocals, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman on guitars and Dave Lombardo on drums, has seen its fair share of controversy with its dark lyrical content and album art.

On the sad occasion of the passing away of guitarist Jeff Hanneman, dna presents 6 popular Slayer songs that you must listen to.

Angel of Death
This song which happens to be about the Holocaust's twisted human experimenter Josef Mengele did not go down well with too many people. Nazi obssession aside, Hanneman's frenetic solo takes this thrash classic to another level.

Raining Blood
Try not headbanging to this sonic assault from the band's 1986 album 'Reign in Blood'. The machinegun like drumming of Dave Lombardo and the King-Hanneman combo proves all too potent.

War Ensemble
Slayer plays it fast and heavy as they always do in this classic from 1990's 'Season in the Abyss'. Hanneman's solo injects a rawness into the song whose riffs can almost melt your brain.

South of Heaven
The title track of the band's medium-paced 1988 album, is nothing short of epic. With the tempo build-up, the chugging riff and wailing solos is the stuff a metalhead's dreams are made off.

Seasons in the Abyss
From the bleakly grandoise guitar intro which sounds like it is heralding the apocalypse to the melodic solo, this is one of Hanneman's best contributions to music.

Dead Skin Mask
Just a cheerful ditty about serial killer/necrophilliac Ed Gein.  This one of the band's well-composed songs with a memorable riff and a noteworthy solo by Hanneman.
