Lucky Ali has dabbled in music composing, singing, acting and the latest addition to his fetish — gardening. But the man promises to dedicate the year to what he is most admired and adored for — music. “This year… I want to dedicate to music completely,” he says.

The O Sanam hit maker asserts that Bollywood features nowhere in his priority list for now. “I think I have moved too far to return to film music now,” he says, adding, “And I say that with all due respects to everyone associated with it. Somehow, my directions are focused differently. I barely have time for myself.”

“As you grow, priorities change and life changes, children are growing up, you find other interests… It’s not the O Sanam days anymore. That was the time when you are driven by this all rock feel and the popularity is just intoxicating and, within yourself, you feel like a rockstar.” He reveals that what made O Sanam a massive hit was the love it beheld. “That was love. A lot of people got married at that time. The album Sunoh, for me, was great pain, but what came out of it was amazing.”

So has life changed since? “It used to scare me to think of the time when the popularity would fade away, though I knew it would happen. I saw my dad go through it. So I developed other interests. I look at life as a canvas. I’ve started from a corner — I’ve done composing, acting, singing, and now gardening… but there is so much of the empty canvas that is still to be scribbled on!”

Lucky, who performed to a packed audience at the Canvas lounge last weekend, feels that “unlike what happens to actors, musicians get a lot of love, respect and adulation from the people.” And is that the reason that he didn’t pursue acting further? “Well, acting is too burdening. And I don’t like to work hard, I like to work smart!”
