Grammys have arrived and India has a reason to cheer as Ricky Kej becomes first ever Indian to be Nominated for the Best New Age Album Category.
Kej, a composer and music producer of Indian origin has been nominated for Winds Of Samsara. He shares this nomination with co-composer and renowned South African flutist Wouter Kellerman.
On receiving the nomination for the Best New Age Album, Kej was elated. "It's a lot to take in and I am still processing just how big all this is," said an excited Kej. His nomination comes alongside other industry artists like Paul Avgerinos, Peter Kater and R. Carlos Nakai, Silvia Nakkach and David Darling Kitaro.
Nominations for the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced on December 5,2014 by The Recording Academy and were determined by academy's voting members. Beyoncé, Sam Smith, and Pharrell Williams have been nominated in six categories making them the top nominees.
In an official statement on grammy.org Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy said, "This year's nominees are a reflection of the music community's diversity and range of talent, and a testament to The Academy's voting process."
Speaking about Winds of Samsara, Kej told dna, "This composition was especially made for the US market and became tremendously popular".
Resident of Bangalore, Kej hopes to see an overwhelming response akin to his popularity in US. " New age music is yet to be fully discovered by India, and I hope to do that with this album."
To be held on February 8, 2015 at STAPLES Center, Los Angeles, The 57th Annual GRAMMY awards promises to be a must watch for Indians across the globe.
Debuted as number one on US Billboard New Age Chart and the ZMR World Radio Charts, Winds of Samsara features 120 musicians from 5 continents and took two years to complete.
