Choreographer-turned-director-turned actress Farah Khan is quite used to juggling many hats, the latest one, of course, being that of an actor. Farah, who began her career as a choreographer, did not have any intentions of being in front of the camera but fate had different plans in store for her.

“When I first announced that I was going to do Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, everyone around me started sniggering. Not just people I knew but my own mother and brother thought something was terribly wrong with me when they read the papers that morning. But Bela Sehgal, my director convinced me that they wanted me for the film. When I heard the script, I insisted that a very experienced actor would be required to play the role but they were hell-bent on having me in the film. But I play my age, look the part and have done nothing extraordinary to get into the role,” she confesses.

Having said that, Farah also adds that she is very happy to have chosen a film like this. “I was  worried as to what I would look like on screen because it was the first time I was facing the camera but one thing I knew was that people would not laugh at me. I am confident that no one will look at me and say, ‘Look at her, what a fool she is making of herself at 40’.” She says her husband Shirish has played a huge role in this. “He was the one who urged me to take it up. Also as a person, I am very open and outspoken. Whether it has been getting married at the age of 40, having triplets at 43 through IVF or this film, I am very open about it. I believe in living life on my own terms. I have always followed my heart. People, who have to laugh, will  laugh, irrespective of whether you do good or bad work,” she adds.

Though she thoroughly enjoyed the process of working with co-star Boman Irani, she says one thing she absolutely didn’t like was spending hours doing her hair and make up.

“I don’t have a single vain bone in my body. I can’t do all this make up and hair business. That’s one thing I will never get used to. Also this film is my one off attempt at being an actor. I have no intentions to do another film at all,” she smiles.
