An actress going bald for a role is a bold move. Especially, since it means that their otherwise glamorous roles have to wait till their hair grows out. Moreover, if a Ranveer Singh can draw stares for going bald for a role, imagine the public curiosity if an actress does the same (and a few have in the past; see box).

So, it does come as a surprise when someone as glamorous as Sonam Kapoor expresses interest in going bald for a great role. She says, “I would love to go bald for a film! I have a nicely shaped head. It would look good if I went bald.”

Sonam says filmmakers like Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra and Sanjay Leela Bhansali had wanted her to go bald to play their characters on screen. She informs, “Before he approached my brother Harshvardhan, Rakeysh was supposed to do Mirziya with me. He had asked me if I would go bald in the film and I had said ‘Yes, of course!’ Even Sanjay had wanted to make Saraswati Chandra with me and he had asked me if I would go bald in it and I had said yes again, but both films didn’t happen. So, every time I was supposed to go bald for a film, the film didn’t happen.”

Sonam shares a different thought of what beauty means to her. “It’s not about physicality”, she says, adding, “To me, being beautiful is about inner beauty and inner strength.”
