Following in the foot steps of Hindi TV serials, several Bengali mega serials have squeezed in festivals in their episodes starting with Holi celebrations to be aired this extended weekend.

Holi celebrations in families, in offices, in localities and among friends have become an integral part of storylines in serials like 'Ke Apon Ke Par', 'Swapna Uran', 'Radha' and 'Ki Kore Toke Bolbo'.

Director and script writer of Bengali serials Sushanta Das, who is associated with the above-mentioned serials, said that this trend of including festivals in mega-soaps began with Hindi soaps and was lapped up by the audience.

He said that such festival-oriented episodes break the monotony of the narrative.

In "E Maaser Galpo", a serial produced and aired by a popular Bengali channel, the story called 'Abar Batas Boy' is based on the theme Holi or Doljatra as it is known in Bengal.

The festival of colours has featured in a serial 'Chhadabeshi', named after a classic Bengali blockbuster.

Producer of several Bengali films and mega serials Shibaji Panja said, "We shot real life Holi celebrations for my small screen production 'Resham Jhanpi'.

"We wish to showcase old traditions and festivals to today's generation," Panja said.

Satyaki Kundu, creative head of a production house, says the festival of colours is prominently featured in an episode of 'Milantithi' and 'Mem Bou' serials.

The serial is enjoying high TRP ratings already.

Bengali TV soap star Bhaswar Chatterjee said, "Be it Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja or Doljatra, all popular Bengali festivals are now coming up in our soaps. They make the audience feel involved."
