If the recent SAG awards held in Los Angeles are anything to go by, more women are opting for a deep side parting and letting their locks speak for themselves. Actresses Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Lawrence and Julianne Moore all flaunted this easy yet glamorous look at the recent red carpet event. Not only is this style flattering for all women with long tresses, but it is also a great way to highlight a backless dress or a halter top.

“Side swept hair has been a trend ever since old Hollywood, and it adds drama to any look,” says hairstylist Dorris Godambe. She feels the look can be easily achieved at home with straight hair to create a very neat look or with the help of a tong for a curly side-swept look. “Add a little hairspray if needed, to hold the hair-do well,” she adds.

It’s a quick and easy way to look sexy and sultry, says make-up and hair expert Elton Fernandez. “The side-swept look adds a soft feminine touch. And since Indian women have dense and dark tresses, this do enhances the effect of a thick head of hair,” he says. Elton recommends trying this do on unwashed hair as it will hold better and using some gel or mousse to create volume.

Hairstylist Akshata Honawar, Runah salon says while this hair-do goes well with flowy gowns, it can also be worn with backless dresses or saris. “The side-parting adds a little volume to the top, making the entire look very classy. This style is easy to achieve on naturally curly or wavy hair. Just wear your hair in a side part and flatten out one side. Pin up one side of the hair upto the ear at the back with bobby pins and then drop the rest,” she says.
