The Awards Season have two biggies people around the globe look forward to. One is the Oscars and the second one is the Golden Globes. HFPA will announce the winners of 73rd Golden Globe awards on January 10 at 8 pm PST (January 11, 6:30 am IST) at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Los Angeles.

There have been many discussions on the choice of the nominees, snubs, first-time entrants and those who were never even considered. That does not make the nominees less worthy of the spot they have earned.

Now let's begin the discussions about who will win in the comedy categories

Best Actress, Comedy

Rachel Bloom, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Jamie Lee Curtis, Scream Queens
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Gina Rodriguez, Jane the Virgin
Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie

Julia Louis-Dreyfus won big with her political comedy at the Emmys. Over the years, HFPA has loved her and nominated her several times for Veep. The Emmys push could work in her favour. Last year's winner Gina Rodrigue has slim chances of winning, looking at the last few winners at the Globes. First season fresher Rachel Bloom stands a chance when we see freshers winning this category over the years.

Prediction - Rachel Bloom for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Maybe - Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Veep

Best Actor, Comedy

Aziz Ansari, Master of None
Gael Garcia Bernal, Mozart in the Jungle
Rob Lowe, The Grinder
Patrick Stewart, Blunt Talk
Jeffrey Tambor, Transparent

HFPA favourite Jim Parsons did not make the cut this time, neither did Matt LeBlanc for Episodes. The place is filled by Aziz Ansari for Master of None. The series has gained critical acclaim for being cheeky and socially relevant. But the real competition here is between Jeffrey Tambor for Transparent and Rob Lowe for The Grinder. Tambor won this category last year and his performance give him another, consecutive win.

Prediction - Jeffery Tambor for Transparent
Maybe - Rob Lowe for The Grinder

Best TV Series, Comedy/Musical

Casual
Mozart in the Jungle
Orange is the New Black
Silicon Valley
Transparent
Veep

The Emmys put Orange is the New Black in the drama category this year. Wise decision given the changed tone of the series. Aziz Ansari's Master of None could also have made the cut, but anywho... Transparent won the trophy for best TV series comedy/musical last year. Veep, as I said, is coming off a big win at Emmys, so momentum is still strong for both of them. Silicon Valley is a favourite among geeks and techies but it sometimes falls short of laughs when it comes to the layman. Hence, I'm putting them in the also-ran category. Mozart in the Jungle could be the dark horse of this category. The dramedy has music too! But that's not all. Gael Garcia Bernal's portrayal of Rodrigo De Souza got much appreciation in its first season. That could be the key in winning this category. All in all Amazon has the best chance of taking this trophy home

Prediction - Transparent
Maybe - Veep
