Tisca Chopra is one actor who has risen above stereotypes. Be it in her films ‘Hyderabad Blues 2’ and ‘Cape Karma’, offbeat TV shows like ‘Astitva - Ek Prem Kahani’, ‘Star Bestsellers’ or even the formulaic ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’. The actor, who was recently seen in ‘Sarrkar’, now plays a battered wife in director Alankrita Srivastav’s short film ‘Open Doors’. The film, shot within six days, has actor Ashish Kapoor (‘Saath Phere’) playing her husband. It aims to be showcased at the Mocha film festival.

Tisca says, “Though the urban woman has largely come into her own, psychologically we don’t see ourselves as equal to men. We are still subject to their opinions about us. Even the most educated of us, at times, take abuse. The film traces the protagonist’s suffering and what eventually makes her quit.”

Tisca is all praise for director Alankrita, “I met her during the making of ‘Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan’. She was assisting Prakash Jha. We connect very well. We share the same vision in that we strongly believe in honesty and decency. It is commendable that she has made the film within time and budget constraints.”  She adds, “If the film can even make a few women stand up and say, ‘I just need to open that door and walk out’, I will feel satisfied.”

Tisca is also excited about hosting a show. Unwilling to divulge much she says, “It’s a huge project.  I am waiting for it to begin.”
