"FROM KABIR TO KAVI" : an entertaining, powerful and insightful musical

"FROM KABIR TO KAVI" brings together two of the most enigmatic poets of India - Kabir and Rabindranath Tagore. "FROM KABIR TO KAVI" is an exhilarating musical play that explores themes such as man's place in the cosmos, his quest for fulfillment, ad his relationship with reality. It is a cross-cultural show scripted in English, with multi-lingual lyrics and Primarily for the stage (filmed portions would naturally not convey the full impact of the staged show) All songs and music live on stage.

The Concept:

The play has been written by Pranav Gupta and Sohini Gupta, who have extensive and broad experience in the theatrical arts. The production is trilingual - primarily in English, with lyrics in Bengali and Hindi and is broadly based on some couplets from the book 'Songs of Kabir', which is Tagore's brilliant rendition of the famous mystic Kabir's poetry. 

The plot focuses on on a Girl (played by Sohini Gupta) who is on a quest to fnd meaning within her life. She encounters a voice from the vast Supreme, personified through a male character (played by Pranay Gupta), who guides her onward to self-discovery, beauty and truth. Their journey is interspersed with specially scripted dialogue and narrative, Rabindrasangeet, poetical lines, beautifully choreographed dance sequences, and so on to give a rich operatic feel. The production is of a high caliber, incorporating sophisticated techniques and delightful movements.

Centred around the oneness of religion / the essence of truth and beauty / spiritual seeking, this play has proved to be an entertaining, powerful and insightful show and has been appreciated by dignitaries like Zubin Mehta and many others. The play inspires to create a home-grown, cross-cultural live experience that is unique in form and content. Operatic in scope, ‘From Kabir to Kavi’ is a rich mix of dialogue and enactment, live songs and music, as well as choreographed dance. Threads of drama, original music, poetry and dance are woven into a single tapestry for the stage. Renowned singers and musicians such as Sasha Ghoshal and Pulak Sarkar are also a part of the show.
