The fact that the Jessica Lal murder case is garnering enormous public outrage seems to be matter of good news for National award-winning filmmaker Ujjwal Chatterjee, whose film ‘Utthan’ is based on same subject.

The film, which shows the dark side of media and politics, begins with the news of Jessica’s murder being flashed on air. Chatterjee’s film, which draws key elements from the high-profile case, is slated for release at the end of April or early May. About his film Chatterjee says, “It will show the dark side of media and politics, but in my film Jessica gets justice and how that happens forms the rest of the story.”

Chatterjee is hopeful that the media spotlight will help his film also. “I think this is the right time to release the film as there will be a certain curiosity about it.”  The film stars Priyanshu Chatterjee, Neha Dhupia, Akhilendra Mishra and Isha Puri and is produced by singer Kumar Sanu. This will be the well-known Bengali film director Chatterjee’s second Hindi film after ‘Escape from Taliban’ starring Manisha Koirala.
