A range of designer wear clothing, cash and computer equipments worth nearly Rs 60 lakh were allegedly stolen from veteran fashion designer Ritu Kumar's flagship store in the national capital's South Extension market, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Friday when thieves broke the lock to enter the store located on the main thoroughfare in the South Extension Part II market. Police registered an FIR at Hauz Khas police station and further investigation is on.

"An estimated loss of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 60 lakh altogether has happened in the theft of the clothes and cash," said a police officer quoting the FIR in the case.

Ritu Kumar said "since the computers have been taken away, we are in the process of taking a stock of the inventory physically. What we do know is that the bridal collection along with some hard cash have been missing. The police have been very cooperative in the case and we are hoping to get some inroads into the case at the earliest." Her entire bridal couture collection along with cash generated from the daily sales and all the IT hardware have been stolen, an official statement said.

The district police commissioner is personally looking into the matter and there are hopes of breakthrough in the incident soon, an official statement said.
